With water level continuing to rise in the Idukki reservoir in Kerala, the fifth shutter of Idukki dam has been lifted.
It is the first time in history that all five shutters of Idukki dam have been raised. With this, 600 cumecs of water is flowing out of the dam per second.
In addition, the Met department has predicted that heavy rain will continue to batter Kerala.
Earlier in the day, three shutters of the Cheruthoni dam have been raised by 100 cm with 425 cumecs water gushing out every second.
Electricity minister M.M Mani had hinted at the possibility of lifting more shutters in case water continues to rise.
