Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M) announced the name of its highly-anticipated sports utility vehicle (SUV), codenamed Y400, as the Alturas G4. The Indian utility vehicle manufacturer has also confirmed to launch it on November 24, 2018, and has started taking bookings for new SUV.
The Mahindra Alturas G4 will replace the company's existing flagship model, the Ssangyong Rexton, and it will compete with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Honda CR-V and the Isuzu MU-X.
Positioned in the high-end SUV segment, the Alturas G4 will compete with players that operate in the Rs 30+ lakh (ex-showroom) price range, the company said in a statement.
"The word Alturas means 'height' or 'pinnacle'," Veejay Nakra, Chief of Sales and Marketing, M&M Ltd said while speaking about the Alturas G4. "The Alturas G4 represents a gateway into luxury for those who have reached the pinnacle of success in their lives. Being our most luxurious offering, exquisitely designed and crafted, we believe that the Alturas G4 name perfectly describes this product."
If we talk about the design, the Alturas G4 takes a lot from the Rexton. However, the SUV is expected to come with features like larger alloy wheels and sunroof. Inside, the model will get a host of tech features including a large touch screen and advanced connectivity features. Along with that, the new Alturas G4 will come loaded with safety features like ABS with EBD,
The new SUV is expected to get a 185PS, 2.2-litre engine and it wi will be built at the company’s manufacturing facility at Chakan in Maharashtra.
