If you have been waiting for the all-new Maruti Ertiga, there’s good news. Maruti will launch the 2018 Ertiga in the Indian market on 21 November. The second generation MPV looks and feels a lot more premium than the outgoing model, and packs in a decent amount of kit as well. The biggest update, though, will be the new 1.5-litre petrol engine, which comes with the Suzuki’s SHVS tech that debuted with the Ciaz facelift in India. The 1.3-litre diesel engine will be carried forward as is.
Though its silhouette remains similar, the new Ertiga now looks a lot classier with a bigger chrome grille, sleeker headlamps and stylish new alloy wheels. The body lines have also been made more prominent, giving it a sleeker look. Sharp creases on the bonnet too help it look more stylish than before.
At the back, the new Volvo-like taillamps and a chiselled tailgate help it look modern. Moreover, this second generation Ertiga is bigger than the outgoing model. As a result, there’s more space inside the car, helping the second and third-row passengers to sit more comfortably. Boot space has also gone up from 135 litres to 153 litres. Maruti has also upped the practicality quotient with 50:50 split foldable third-row seats, making it more flexible when it comes to carrying luggage and seating passengers.
Inside, a completely revised interior with faux wood accents and Audi-like connected vents make it look much better than the current model. In terms of features, Maruti is offering keyless smart entry, automatic climate control, Suzuki SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual front airbags and ABS with EBD.
Powering the 2018 Ertiga will be a new 1.5-litre petrol engine with SHVS tech, same as the one introduced in the Ciaz facelift a few months ago. It makes 105PS of power and 138Nm of torque in the sedan. These power figures will most likely remain the same for the MPV as well. As far as the gearbox options are concerned, while a 5-speed manual will be offered as standard, the Ertiga might not get the 4-speed automatic transmission. The 1.2-litre diesel motor producing 90PS/200Nm coupled with SHVS tech will remain unaltered.
The 2018 Ertiga will renew its rivalry with the Honda BR-V when launched on 21 November. As far as the prices are concerned, the 2018 Ertiga will certainly command a premium over the current model. We expect the prices for the 2018 Maruti Ertiga to start from Rs 7 lakh and go up to Rs 11 lakh.
