For renewal of driving licence (DL) in UP, applicants will have to take a driving test again in order to re-qualify for the the licence.
In case, an applicant fails to renew his licence within one month, he will have to pay Rs 200 as penalty. The renewal fee continues to be Rs 400 for cars and two wheelers.
The new rules by the state transport department have been uploaded in the online licensing software.
Till now, renewal of licence required an application enclosed with a copy of the old licence. After biometric verification, a new driving licence was issued. Now, an applicant will have to undergo a driving test.
D K Singh, regional transport officer of Agra, said, “The Sarathi 4.0 software which compiles details of driving licence owners will now also require a driving test for renewal.”
