Tips to Take Care of Damaged Hair

Damaged hair is a big problem for everyone around the world. Hair fall, split ends, dandruff, lice, hair breakage constitute a part of damaged hair problems. Not always can hair be as smooth or as bad as the commercials show in before/after cases. Damaged hair needs good care, maintenance along with patience and time to look after it. A bad hair day can result in an agitated mood throughout the day. Our daily schedule may not permit us to take time off especially to heed to and nourish damaged hair. Though not regularly, remedies or precautions need to be taken at the least twice in a week. Here are a few tips to take care of damaged hair.

  • Before styling or drying your hair, always use a conditioner, preferably a leave-on conditioner. Make sure you wash your hair at least twice or thrice a week. Do not accumulate dirt on the scalp. It can lead to dirty scalps and rough, unmanageable hair.
  • A wiser option is washing your hair with a conditioner. Carefully apply the conditioner to your hair and little to the scalp. Rinse thoroughly and don’t let even a little amount of the conditioner remain on the scalp. Wash your hair and pat dry. This will give a silkier and smoother look.
  • Protect your hair from pollution. Always wear a scarf that covers your hair. Dust particles and harmful monoxide gases are one of the root causes for the texture of your hair to turn rough.
  • Get your hair trimmed once every 8 weeks. This will reduce the extra growth of hair and prevent split ends.
  • Olive oil and vinegar is a good combination to treat damaged hair. Apply olive oil to hair and leave it overnight. Wash your hair with vinegar first and then shampoo it like how you do regularly. Vinegar acts as a conditioner. So you need not use conditioner again after the wash. Vinegar helps in reducing dandruff too. Olive oil prevents hair fall to an extent.
  • After a wash, people generally tend to twist their hair up into a towel. Avoid doing that. Instead you can just squeeze the water and pat dry your hair with a towel and let it dry naturally. Use of blow dryers or hair styling machinery is not always recommended. Use it only when you want to style your hair.
  • Try to avoid brushes as much as possible. Use wide toothed combs that are smooth on your hair. Do not comb hair when it is wet. This will only add on to the problems of already damaged hair. Let your hair dry naturally. You can then untangle it and comb. When wet, your hair is weaker and more prone to breakage. Proper care should be taken.
  • Use shampoos that are rich in protein content. Do not use shampoos that contain too much of chemicals. If using them, dilute them with loads of water. Chemicals can act harsh on your hair.
  • Almonds are proven to be good for hair growth. 4-5 washed almonds a day can help in hair growth.
  • Lastly, good nutrition is important for healthy hair. Eat lots of protein dishes and eggs. Eggs can also used for hair treatment. Apply the yolk or a paste of the egg white. Either of them can work wonders to damaged hair.
  • Always remember, damaged hair is only a temporary problem. But over thinking about it and stressing yourself can make it a permanent problem. A healthy brain and a healthy body results in healthy hair.
