‘Makdee’ child artist who now grown up to be 23-year-old Shweta Basu Prasad was arrested by police in Hyderabad in connection with a high profile prostitution racket. Shweta became a household name after the success of ‘Makdee’ and even won National Film Award for Best Child Artist for her performance in the 2002 film ‘Makdee.’
Shweta Basu Prasad also played the role of Shreyas Talpade’s younger sister in National Award winning movie ‘Iqbal’. In a police raid, Shweta was found in an uncompromising position at a high end hotel at the Banjara Hills in Hyderabad with some high profile businessman.
This is not the first time she was caught in a sex racket. Reportedly, Shweta was exposed in a sting operation carried by a Telugu channel. Shweta Basu Prasad reasoned that financial crisis has compelled her to take this path.
Shweta, who also worked in Telugu films and acted in Ekta Kapoor’s hit serial ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki’ where she played the role of Sakshi Tanwar’s daughter reasoned about her involved in prostitution racket. “I have made wrong choices in my career and I was out of money. I had to support my family and some other good causes. All doors were closed and some people encouraged me to get into prostitution to earn money. I was helpless and with no option left to choose (from), I got involved in this. I’m not the only one who faced this problem and there are several other heroines who have gone through this phase,” she said.
“Shweta Prasad was arrested, and has been sent to a Government Rehabilitation Home. She will be in remand for some time now. The chargesheet will be filed within the next 10 days,” confirms a senior inspector of Banjara Hills police station in Hyderabad.
Shweta also worked in Nagesh Kukunoor’s Iqbal (2005), Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! (2005) Ram Gopal Varma’s Darna Zaroori Hai (2006) and popular telly serial, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki and Karishma Kaa Karishma, Actor Kiran Karmakar, who played her father in ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki’ is shocked to hear this. He said, “She was like my daughter. I wish she comes out of this problem soon.”
