Hollywood production house Disney has announced a massive restructuring of their release calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic, which also revealed that James Cameron’s long-awaited Avatar sequels are also getting postponed.
Avatar 2, which had resumed production in New Zealand this summer was supposed to be released December of 2021 and has now postponed to December 16, 2022. Avatar 3 got shuffled from December 2023 to December 20, 2024, Avatar 4 from December 2025 to December 18, 2026 and Avatar 5 has been postponed from December 2027 to December 22, 2028.
However Disney is planning a holiday release strategy, just like the 2009 original. With this postponement, Avatar 2 will release 13 years after the first film.The Avatar sequels were initially announced in 2010, with Avatar 2 scheduled for release in 2014.
