A.R Rahman, the only musician from India to win an Oscar Award, is celebrating his 54th birthday on Wednesday. Rahman is known for his fusion of Indian classical music with world music.
Rahman made his feature film debut with Mani Ratnam's 'Roja'. He went on to win his first National Award for the film.
The win created history as never before had the award been given to a first-time film composer.
Regarded as the musician who has a distinct style and taste in comparison to his contemporaries, Rahman has a long list of feats under his name.
Along with winning four National Awards, Rahman has two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and 15 Filmfare Awards to name a few.
Even a street in Ontario, Canada, has been named in his honour.
He also received a Padma Bhushan for the services he rendered to the music fraternity. Rahman is known as one of the world’s all-time best-selling music recording artists.
He was bestowed with honorary titles like ‘Isai Puyal’ (The Musical Storm) and ‘The Mozart of Madras’.
