Kaanal Neer is based on a feature that appeared in one of the most popular Indian daily about a family that found shelter under a bridge in Kochi, India. Many of the landless people are in search of seeking shelters to protect their women from the city dwellers to avoid the risk of sexual abuse.
The film also sheds light on the struggles for land that happen in the country and that the authorities rarely neglect. The film also reflects the red tapestry in India and the failure of the bureaucracy to help those in need.
The main character is played by Priyanka Nair. Hareesh Peradi also plays a vital role in this movie. T S Suresh Babu did the script and Sohan Roy produced this movie. The film is the first charity film in the world and is made in the category of CSR films.
