Selvaraghavan took to his Twitter handle to announce that is set to work with his brother Dhanush for the sequel to his 2010-released acclaimed film ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’. After the director shared the first look, Dhanush quickly followed it with a tweet that reads,
“A magnum opus! The pre production alone will take us a year. But a dream film from the master @selvaraghavan! The wait will be long. But we will give our best to make it all worth it. AO2.The Prince returns in 2024 (sic).”
‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ was a highly ambitious film that had Karthi, Andrea Jeremiah, R Parthiban and Reema Sen as the leads. It is inspired loosely by the historical decline of the Tamil Chola dynasty and the rise of the Tamil Pandya dynasty. Upon its release in 2010, the film garnered mixed reviews, but later developed a cult status over the following years.
‘Aayirathil Oruvan 2’ starring Dhanush is also planned on a massive scale. The pre-production works will go on for the entirety of 2022 shoot will begin only next year. Meanwhile, the team will be finalising the rest of the cast and crew.
