40th death anniversary of Mollywood's action hero Jayan

 

Jayan, one of Malayalam cinema’s first superstars left us 40 years back on this day. Krishnan Nair popularly known as Jayan, his screen name, amazed the Malayali audience with his macho look, powerful dialogue delivery and with his daredevilry performances in action sequences.

But ironically he passed away in an accident while performing a daring stunt sequence for the movie Kolilakkam.

Jayan acted in 124 films starting from 1972, His career graph skyrocketed in 1977 when he acted in 19 films, 1978 in 31, 1979 (25) and in 1980 of the 30 films that he was working in, 11 were released after his death.

Jayan previously a navy officer made his debut in film industry through the movie Shapa Moksham. His performance in Panchami was widely acclaimed and people started noticing him. But it was through the movie Sharapancharam that Jayan gained popularity and he soon rose to fame.

Unni Mukundan took to his Instagram page and penned a heartfelt note on actor Jayan. 

“Remembering my favourite Action SuperStar on his 40th death anniversary. This action sequence that he attempted back in those days when the safety measures were hardly present, shows us the Man he was. M sure he wanted his audience to feel the thrill of the moment! U r always my Fav!,” wrote Unni.

He shared a pic in which he was seen near the statue of Jayan at the memorial in Kollam. He also posted a screen grab of the helicopter stunt scene of of Jayan.

Jayan is still remembered by millions of Malayalis across the globe.
