Several Mollywood films that were set to hit theatres by end of March and April have now postponed their release dates. While some movies are looking at digital releases due to the uncertainty of when theatres would open and the delay in release dates, many big films are still aiming at theatrical release.
This include Rajeev Ravi’s period movie Thuramukham, which features Nivin Pauly, Nimisha Sajayan Indrajith and Joju George in pivotal roles. Ask Rajeev if he is planning an OTT release for the film and he says, “Currently, we want to finish the post production. This movie has been made on a big scale and theatrical release would be our first option. Right now, it’s a period of transition with the digital releases in play, so we can’t say how the future would be, especially when people now aren’t too keen on watching movies in multiplexes in the midst of such a crisis.”
The film, which is set against the backdrop of Cochin port, revolves around the uprisings of the labourers against the ‘chappa’ system, where a copper coin was tossed in the air and workers had to fight to grab the coin for work.
