Another infant dies in Attappadi tribal settlement

A one-day-old infant died due to cardiac ailments and breathing issues at a hamlet in Attappadi in Palakkad, one of the largest tribal settlements in Kerala.

The boy, born to a woman hailing from Vellakkulam, died at the Thrissur Government Medical College hours after the delivery on Tuesday, health department sources said.

With this, the total number of infant deaths in Attappadi has risen to 11 this year.

The infant, which had some defects in the heart valve, developed breathing difficulty soon after he was born at the Kottathara Super Speciality Hospital.

Though he was rushed to the Thrissur Medical College, he was declared dead by night, sources added.
