Pune under mini-lockdown; Restaurants, malls to be shut for a week

Mumbai: Eateries, bars and restaurants in Pune district of Maharashtra will remain shut for seven days in view of the spike in coronavirus cases of late, a senior official said.

A curfew will be in place across the district from 6 pm to 6 am, and malls, cinema halls and places of religious worship will also be shut during the seven-day period, he said.

The administration introduced these 'stricter restrictions' in the district, which reported more than 8,000 COVID-19 cases in the past two consecutive days.

On Friday, Pune recorded 9,086 in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day addition in the district so far, to touch 5,51,508, an official said. With 58 deaths on Friday, the overall death toll in Pune due to coronavirus rose to 10,097, and 3,337 people were discharged.
