Gold smuggling case: NIA arrests absconding accused Rabins Hameed

Kochi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Rabins Hameed, one of the absconding accused in the gold smuggling case, at Kochi airport on Monday.

He was deported by the UAE government following Interpol's Blue Corner notice against him.

Rabins, a native of Muvattupuzha, is the key conspirator in the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling at Thiruvananthapuram airport.

According to reports, he was leading the UAE centred gold smuggling.

The investigation targeted him after Customs seized gold smuggling through diplomatic baggage. Following this, the UAE police arrested him.

He was deported to India as per extradition treaty. Obtaining custody of Rabins was a major challenge for the investigation agencies probing the gold smuggling case.
