Kochi: The reconstructed Palarivattom flyover in Kochi was opened for the public on Sunday.
The load test on the structure was successfully completed last week, following which the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued a fitness certificate on Thursday.
The flyover on National Highway 66, constructed during the previous UDF government, was closed a few months after inauguration in 2016 as major flaws were detected in the structure.
The flyover has been a major political flash point as corruption charges were leveled against PWD ministers and officials of the previous Cabinet. Former Kerala Minister and IUML leader V.K Ebrahim Kunju and a few officials were arrested by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) over corruption charges.
The Vigilance had alleged that Ebrahim Kunju sanctioned interest-free funds to the contracting company that had built the flyover.
