Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday criticized state government’s alleged move to increase salaries of government employees.
Justice Alexander Thomas said the government is fleecing the common man to implement the hike and that the government is fearing organized vote bank instead of acting by understanding the circumstances.
The court also pointed out that salaries of government employees are revised every four and a half years in Kerala alone.
Further, the court said no political party or organization is showing the courage to state this openly.
As per a June 2020 interim report of a committee appointed by the state government to rationalize expenditure, 70 per cent of total revenue expenditure of the state goes towards payment of salaries, pensions, and interest payments.
