South-west monsoon weak over Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Tuesday, June 12, 2012: Southwest monsoon has been weak over Kerala. Rain occurred at a few places in Kerala and at isolated places in Lakshadweep.

The chief amounts of rainfall reports in cm are – Kudulu (Kasaragod district) 6, Irikkur & Thalasserry (both in Kannur district) & Vadakara (Kozhikode district) 4 each, Kozhikode & Quilandy (Kozhikode district) 3 each, Kannur, Cherthala (Alappuzha district) & Manjeri (Malappuram district) 2 each and Karipur AP & Ponnani (both in Malappuram district), Kunnamkulam (Thrissur district), Mananthavady (Wayanad district), Mannarkad (Palakkad district) & Taliparamba (Kannur district) 1 each.

Heavy rainfall will occur at isolated places in Kerala and Lakshadweep during next 48 hours.

Strong onshore winds from westerly direction speed occasionally reaching 45-55 kmph is likely along & off Kerala coast and over Lakshadweep area during next 24 hours.
