Mumbai: Maharashtra cabinet minister and former chief minister Ashok Chavan has tested positive for coronavirus in Mumbai.
Congress leader Ashok Chavan is the current PWD minister of Maharashtra.
The minister has been travelling between Mumbai and his home district in Marathwada frequently, according to sources.
"He contracted the infection a few days back and is now undergoing treatment," an official added.
Earlier, NCP leader and Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad had tested positive for coronavirus. He recovered after remaining admitted in a hospital in Mumbai for more than two weeks.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra crossed the 50,000-mark on Sunday on account of 3,041 new detections, the highest in the single day.
