Gold smuggling case: NIA submits chargesheet; Sandeep Nair turns approver

Kochi: The National Investigation Agency on Tuesday submitted the chargesheet in the sensational gold smuggling case in Thiruvananthapuram airport. 

Swapna Suresh, P.S Sarith and K.T Ramees have been named accused in the chargesheet submitted.

Another accused in the case, Sandeep Nair has been named approver. 

NIA official Radhakrishna Pillai submitted the report at NIA special court . The chargesheet has been submitted within six months of making the first arrest in the case.

Over 35 persons have been named accused in the chargesheet. Out of them, 21 have been arrested, 7 are in judicial custody while 12 were let off in bail.

Sandeep Nair had turned approver during his confidential statement recorded in court.

The chargesheet also stated that the UAPA charges against the accused are valid. 

This is the first chargesheet submitted in the case. As more accused are arrested and the investigation progresses, more chargesheets will be submitted.
