Govt decides not to allow devotees inside Sabarimala temple

Thiruvananthapuram: The famous Sabarimala temple will not be opened to public, Kerala Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran announced.

Surendran said that the Sabarimala temple festival, scheduled to commence from June 19, will also not be held.

"In a meeting with the Sabarimala tantri and Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), it has been decided that the Sabarimala temple will not be opened for public for the monthly 'pooja' and temple festival will also be cancelled", the minister said.

The development came a day after the temple priest, in a letter to the TDB, asked for the temple not to be opened for devotees amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
