Maharashtra put under President's rule

President Ram Nath Kovind has approved the cabinet decision to impose President's Rule in Maharashtra following the deadlock over government formation even after almost three weeks since the election results came out.

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officials said in a statement that the President's Rule is applicable for six months and any party that can prove a majority in the Maharashtra assembly can come forward and the President's Rule will be withdrawn. According to MHA officials, the Governor in his report said that there is no probability of a stable government in Maharashtra at the moment.

"The Union cabinet took up the proposal of governor's report and recommended President's Rule in Maharashtra," an MHA official said.
