In a sensational charge by the Congress party, it has alleged that there is a threat to its president Rahul Gandhi’s life in Amethi. The Congress has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs with regard to the matter.
In its letter, the Congress claimed that laser, possibly from a sniper gun, was pointed at Rahul Gandhi, who is an SPG protectee.
This, Congress has claimed, was a breach of Rahul Gandhi’s security.
The incident happened after Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers from Amethi for the Lok Sabha elections 2019. Prior to filing his nomination, Rahul conducted a roadshow in Amethi where Priyanka Gandhi was also present.
In the letter addressed to Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress demanded that the Centre investigate and “neutralize the threat, if any”.
The party also asked for ensuring that security personnel follow the protocol concerning Rahul’s security.
Detailing the incident, the Congress claimed in the letter that a green laser was pointed seven times at Rahul’s head.
“…a laser (green) was pointed at his head, intermittently on at least 7 separate occasions in a short period; including twice at his temple on the right side of the head,” the Congress claimed in the letter, as per the report.
