When Laxman, Dravid stitched together a historic stand against Aussies

For every Indian cricket fan, who was old enough in 2001 to follow and understand the game, March 14, 2001 will forever be etched in their memories; and for most, what transpired at the hallowed Eden Gardens, Kolkata 17 years ago on Wednesday, would still be their best cricketing memory.

On March 14, 17 years ago, legendary Indian cricketers V.V.S Laxman and Rahul Dravid stitched together a historic partnership against Australia to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

A stand of 376 runs took India from 254/4 to 589/4 and set in motion what would later become one of the best, if not the best, comebacks in cricket history.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to social media to pay tribute to the duo and their post read: “#ThisDayThatYear in 2001 VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid scripted a historic Test comeback ever at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata #TeamIndia”

Laxman also took to Twitter to remember the historic Test when India recorded a stunning comeback win and his post read: “Some days give us an opportunity to know ourselves better & realize what we are capable of. 17 years ago was one such day, which reemphasized my belief that we should not give up and an opportunity to serve my country. Was not just me and Rahul, but Bhajji, Sachin and the whole team”.
