In the last year or two, Motorola hasn't been an active participant in the affordable smartphone categories. Yes, they have been launching some phone every now and then but most of them simply couldn't keep up with the glory the predecessors enjoyed. However, last year's Motorola One Power showed that someone in Motorola is still listening to the demands of the consumer. The One Power brought back Motorola into the limelight and now it is banking on the One series of phones to get back in the segment it ruled once.
The Motorola One Vision was an impressive phone we saw a few months ago and now, there's the One Action. As cool as it sounds, the One Action does have some rather cool tricks up its sleeves to make the people at Xiaomi, Samsung and Realme worry. The One Action starts at Rs 13,999 in India and for its price, it is an interesting phone, especially for those who love shooting videos. And more than the camera, the rest of the phone offers a whole new package.
If the One action has caught your attention, then here are a couple of things you ought to know about the One Action before buying it.
Motorola One Action specifications
Display: The Motorola One Action gets a 6.3-inch Full HD+ LCD display with an aspect ratio of 21:9 which Motorola calls CinemaVision. There's a hole-punch cutout in the top corner for the selfie camera.
Chipset: Similar to the One Vision, the One Action is also using Samsung's Exynos 9609 chipset.
RAM and storage: The One Action comes in only one variant in India. You get 4GB RAM and 128GB storage as standard.
Battery: Similar to the One Vision, the One Action is also kept alive by a 3500mAh battery. However, instead of the 15W TurboPower charging, the One Action only gets 10W fast charging.
Front camera: The hole-punch cutout at the front houses a 12-megapixel selfie camera.
Rear cameras: This is the first Motorola phone in India to feature an unconventional triple camera setup. The primary camera is a 12-megapixel sensor with F1.8 lens and is accompanied by a 5-megapixel depth camera. The third camera is an ultra-wide-angle camera meant to only shoot action videos.
OS: The One Action is an Android One phone and is right now running on Android 9 Pie. The upcoming Android 10 update, as well as the next Android R update, will hit this phone.
Motorola One Action features
The One Action derives the 'Action' moniker due to its wide-angle Action Camera. Most phones have a wide-angle camera for still photos but the one in the One Action only records videos. But what's so 'Action' about it? Well, Motorola has tilted the camera sensor by 90-degrees. Therefore, you can hold the phone in portrait mode and the camera can still shoot in full wide-angle landscape orientation. Motorola says that this has been done to make shooting fast motion easily with one hand.
Stability in an Action camera is of prime importance and Motorola has ensured that with its Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS). Theoretically, it can't beat Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) but Motorola has tuned the EIS in a way that you often feel there's an OIS assistance. The Action Camera can record videos in either Full HD resolution at 60 fps, FHD at 21:9 format and HD resolution. The EIS can be manually turned off or on.
The One Action is the second Motorola phone in India to use Samsung's Exynos chipset after the One Vision. The Exynos 9609 is comparable to the Snapdragon 670 series chips and based on what we saw in the One Vision, this chip should be plenty powerful to consume anything. And paired with a stock Android interface, the One Action is always fast and lag-free,
Motorola says the One Action will get two Android OS updates and three years of security updates. The interface is 90 per cent stock, with some of Motorola's customizations baked in. There's the Moto Display that's similar to Always-On display from other phones. The one-button navigation, as well as the Moto gestures, are all there in the One Action.
The One Action may look identical to the One Vision but there are certain differences to mark them apart. The triple camera on the One Action is the biggest giveaway. Then there's the plastic rear panel at the back that makes the phone lighter than the One Vision. Also, the two-tone colour gradients are not present here, although the One Action has reflective gradients. Also, the One Action only supports 10W fast charging.
Motorola One Action price and availability
Motorola is following a single variant strategy in India lately. The One Action, as a result, gets only a single variant with 128GB storage and 4GB RAM. This variant will set you back by Rs 13,999. The phone will be available on sale from August 30 on Flipkart.
Motorola One Action alternatives
The Motorola One Action at Rs 13,999 has some serious competition. Xiaomi recently launched the Mi A3 at Rs 13,999, offering an HD+ AMOLED display with an in-display fingerprint sensor, a Snapdragon 665 chipset, 4000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support and a 48-megapixel primary rear camera. The Samsung Galaxy M30 at Rs 13,990 also offers a Full HD+ AMOLED screen, 5000mAh battery with 15W fast charging and a triple rear camera setup. The Realme 5 Pro at Rs 13,999 also offers a Snapdragon 712 chipset and a quad-camera setup at this price.
