How to discipline your kids without yelling or raising your voice

How to discipline your kids

Parenting is no child’s play. If anything, it is a roller coaster ride where the little ones make you pull your hair out and laugh at their pure innocence, in equal amounts. This is when the age-old question comes up--is it really possible to raise kids without yelling?Tell us if this sounds familiar. You have asked your kids to go to bed or do their homework and turn off the Peppa Pig marathon.

How to handle it better

While your kids scutter away to their respective rooms, you feel a cloud of guilt looming over your head. You know you could have handled the situation in a better manner.

Isolate yourself from the situation

When things get out of control with your children, it is understandable if you want to yell at the top of your voice. Count till five and get away from the situation. Remember to be calm but firm with your approach.

Give them a choice

If your kid wants a cookie for breakfast, you can offer them a tastier alternative to the regular bread and butter or aaluka parantha. You can also explain to your children that they need to have a healthy breakfast but they can have the cookie later in the day.

Practice the pause

Remember that your toddler’s brain is growing with every passing day and he is learning more about the world around him.

Hence, it is understandable that it can all get a little overwhelming for the little one. So, instead of asking you kid logical questions, practice a pause of 5-8 seconds when he/she throws a fuss. Desk: Asianet Online
